"Yemassee .. on the Right Track"

Preserve our Forests and Rivers ....

The Town of Yemassee, population 860,  has a total area of 4.5 square miles.   The town is split between two counties, Beaufort to the east and Hampton to the west.   The CSX railroad tracks that run through downtown Yemassee divide the county lines.

The town boundaries are surrounded by unincorporated areas of four counties:  Beaufort, Hampton, Jasper and Colleton.  The Yemassee post office (zip code 29945) services the town and these surrounding county areas.  This area consists of 197.44 square miles.  Population is 4,515.

Thousands of acres surrounding the town belong to privately-owned plantations, many of which have conservation easements.  That means, our corner of South Carolina, comprised of untouched forests, black water rivers and streams and adjacent marshlands, will be forever preserved.

Yemassee offers a lot of the great outdoors.  It deserves our respect.  Help us preserve and protect that which makes our area so special.

There are many ways we all can help keep our environment healthy:

  • Don't Litter.
  • Pick up trash you see, even if you didn't place it there.
  • Prevent forest fires.
  • Strictly adhere to State fire alerts and burning bans.
  • Don't flip cigarettes outside.
  • Watch your outdoor fires.
  • Make sure your fire is entirely extinguished before leaving it unattended.
  • Limit boat wakes on our rivers and streams.  Wakes cause erosion.
  • Recycle your monofilament fishing line.
  • Avoid fuel and oil spills in our water and marsh areas.
  • Scoop up after your pets.  Pet waste contaminates our water.
  • Use phosphate-free cleaners.
